Suppression of multi-gluon fluctuations in jets at a Linear Collider

چکیده

It was shown that at typical energies and luminosities of an ee linear collider one can observe a significant suppression of fluctuations of the number of gluons in small angular regions. This property of jets is expected in ee annihilation as well as in any collision producing high energy quarks which give rise to the QCD gluon cascade. The reduction of multiplicity fluctuations was obtained from perturbative QCD using bunching parameters and then cross checked with a Monte Carlo simulation. The parton-level Monte Carlo simulation confirms the prediction, while the hadron level illustrates that the effect survives the hadronization process. Forward di-jet production in p+Pb collisions in the small-x improved TMD factorization framework

We study the production of forward di-jets in proton-lead and proton-proton collisions at the Large Hadron Collider. Such configurations, with both jets produced in the forward direction, impose a dilute-dense asymmetry which allows to probe the gluon density of the lead or proton target at small longitudinal momentum fractions. Even though the jet momenta are always much bigger than the satura...

Quark and gluon tagging at the LHC.

Being able to distinguish light-quark jets from gluon jets on an event-by-event basis could significantly enhance the reach for many new physics searches at the Large Hadron Collider. Through an exhaustive search of existing and novel jet substructure observables, we find that a multivariate approach can filter out over 95% of the gluon jets while keeping more than half of the light-quark jets....

Characteristics of Parton Energy Loss Studied with High-pT Particle Spectra from PHENIX

In the first three years of the physics program at the Relativistic Heavy Ion Collider (RHIC) a picture was established in which the suppression of hadrons at high transverse momenta (pT) in central Au+Au collisions is explained by energy loss of quark and gluon jets in a medium of high color-charge density. Measurements of single particle spectra for a smaller nucleus (Cu), for different cente...

W vs. QCD Jet Tagging at the Large Hadron Collider

High energy collisions of protons at the Large Hadron Collider (LHC) produce massive particles such as W, Z, Higgs bosons, and top quarks. A key task in the search for physics beyond the standard model is to study the kinematic configurations of these heavy particles. The massive particles are observed indirectly by the energy signature they generate. The heavy particles decay into quarks and g...

Searching for tt̄ Resonances at the Large Hadron Collider

Many new physics models predict resonances with masses in the TeV range which decay into a pair of top quarks. With its large cross section, tt̄ production at the Large Hadron Collider (LHC) offers an excellent opportunity to search for such particles. We present a detailed study of the discovery potential of the CERN Large Hadron Collider for Kaluza-Klein (KK) excitations of the gluon in bulk R...
